📍 Route Check: Where are you coming from?
You have seen it from the Shinkansen. Now, let’s go to its feet.
Warning: Fuji-san is shy. She hides behind clouds 50% of the time. But when she appears, it is magic.

I am Hachi-Sensei!
Kawaguchiko is extremely crowded in 2026. The “Coin Locker Crisis” is real. Read my strategy below to survive!
📊 Mt. Fuji Stats Dashboard
💀 My Biggest Mistake (The Bus Trap)
I once waited for the “Red Line Bus” (Sightseeing Bus) at Kawaguchiko Station. The line was 50 meters long. When the bus finally came, it was packed like a sardine can. I couldn’t get on.
The result? I stood in traffic for 1 hour and missed the sunset.
👉 Lesson: Rent an “E-Bike” (Electric Bicycle) near the station. It is faster than the bus, and you can stop anywhere for photos!

🕙 10:00 – Arrival & Locker Trap
Location: Shimoyoshida Station (or Kawaguchiko Station)

⛩️ 10:30 – Chureito Pagoda (Quest 1)
Mission: Climb 398 steps to see the “Most Famous View in Japan”.

Why here? The red pagoda + Mt. Fuji + Cherry Blossoms (in spring) is the ultimate Japanese scenery. It’s a hard climb, but the reward is legendary.
🍲 12:30 – Lunch: Hoto Noodles
Food: “Hoto” (Flat noodles in Miso soup with pumpkin).
After the hike, warm up with this local soul food. Recommended shops: “Hoto Fudo” (look for the white cloud-shaped building) or “Kosaku”.
Warning: Hoto Noodles broth usually contains Fish Dashi (Bonito). It is NOT vegetarian.
Safe Options:
1. Bakery: Buy “Mt. Fuji Bread” (check ingredients).
2. Zaru Soba: Cold Buckwheat noodles. Ask for “Soy Sauce” instead of Dashi soup if you are strict vegan.
Fuji Bread
Matcha IceFind “Mt. Fuji Bread” or “Matcha Ice” for a photogenic dessert!
💧 14:30 – Oshino Hakkai (Quest 2)

Strategy: Do NOT take the Red Line Bus (it’s too crowded). Rent an electric bike near Kawaguchiko Station.

Take the bus to Mishima Station (1 hour), then jump on the Shinkansen to Nagoya or Kyoto. This is the “Golden Route”.
⚠️ Fuji Survival Guide: 8 Iron Rules
1. 🛅 Coin Locker Crisis (Critical!)
Lockers at Kawaguchiko Station are full by 9:00 AM. Solution: Use the “Baggage Storage” (Concierge Desk) opposite the station, or drop bags at your hotel first.
2. 🚲 Rent an E-Bike
The tourist bus (Red Line) is a trap. It is always crowded and stuck in traffic. E-Bike is the only way to win.
3. ☁️ The “Shy Mountain” Rule
Mt. Fuji is often covered in clouds, especially in the afternoon. Wake up early (6-8 AM) for the best chance of clear views.
4. 🧥 Dress Warm
Kawaguchiko is high altitude (800m+). Even in summer, nights are cool. In winter, it is freezing. Bring layers.
5. 🎢 Fuji-Q Ticket
If you want to scream, go to Fuji-Q Highland. The “Free Pass” is worth it if you ride 3+ coasters. [Get Ticket Here]
6. 📶 Connectivity
Rural areas have weak WiFi. Google Maps is essential for biking.
📶 Get eSIM (Instant Setup)
7. 💴 Cash Only
Many small Hoto noodle shops or bike rentals only accept Cash. ATMs are scarce.
8. 🍽️ Dinner Crisis
Restaurants close early (18:00 or 19:00). Izakayas near the station are open later, but booking is recommended.
☔ FAQ: What if it rains?
Q. It’s raining. Can I see Fuji?
A. Sadly, no. But don’t cry! Here is your Plan B:
- Fuji-Q Highland (Indoor): “Fuji Airways” and Haunted Hospital are indoors.
- Kubota Itchiku Art Museum: Stunning Kimono museum. Very zen.
- Hot Spring (Onsen): Just relax in the bath and listen to the rain.
✅ Quest Complete!
You have seen the Sacred Mountain.
Now, choose your next destination.
Don’t go back to Tokyo! Take the bus to Mishima Station (1 hour), then jump on the Shinkansen. This is the smartest route.
